Card of the Day – Prince of Discs

I'm going to write about the meaning of the Tarot cards in my deck, but rather than doing it in some dull old logical order I thought I'd just cut one out of the deck when I have the time and see which one turned up.  With time this may even turn into a complete, if slightly eccentric, guide to how to read the Tarot.  I'll also try to figure out if they are turning up randomly or if there's some meaning in which card turns up at which time.

Prince of Discs

Prince of DiscsThe court cards in a reading traditionally represent a person.  A person that may enter your life, or that you already know, or that is having a direct influence on you.  However, in my readings they tend to turn up in a range of different positions that can as easily represent some advice, or a way to be, as they can a particular person turning up.

Elementally the Princes are of Air and Discs are of earth.  So this card is about the most Air like qualities of earth.  Earth is normally about solid things, things that don't change very much – physical possessions, money, home.  But Air is by its nature very changeable and movable, so this introduces a far greater experience of change than would normally be found within the earth.  As a person, therefore, I would expect the Prince of Disks to appear as someone who is largely concerned with earthly things (someone who enjoys money, the luxuries of life, who enjoys food and sensual pleasures) and who also likes to live at a fast pace.  This would be someone who likes to go out to different places, who enjoys being around people, who likes to travel.  The Prince of Discs is probably great fun to have around, but probably doesn't engage with life at a terribly deep level.  Such a prince enjoys what they can touch and feel and isn't too worried about the deeper implications of it all.  They may not be terribly steadfast and reliable but they have a solid quality to them.

If the card is more in the position of advice it would tend to mean adopt some of these qualities (if in it's positive aspect) or calm them down (if negative).  I quite often see this card in the context of people asking about finding a new relationship – in which case it usually means 'go out, go somewhere new, go to places and have experiences'.  As a warning it usually means calm down a little, think a little deeper about what you are doing, and asks if your actions are really satisfying, or just distracting.

As a card of the day it would mean that today is a good day to go out and do some things – particularly enjoy some physical pleasures (eat well, travel well, try something new).  It would indicate a person had the stamina and energy to go through whatever tests lie ahead, and it would suggest that today isn't a day for thinking, but a day for enjoying, experiencing and doing.

this really helped today after my good friend did my tarot reading though in the aspect of my past does this have to do anything with involving the Taurus sign? or does it not hold specific position in the astrology category ?

The Court cards do, indeed, have particular astrological correspondences. The Prince of Discs rules from the 21st degree of Aries to the 20th degree of Taurus, so you're right that this card has a strong Taurus connection. For reasons I've never entirely wrapped my head around, the rulership of the Court cards don't line up perfectly with the astrological signs, but have a slight 'overlap' with the preceding sign (they rule the last decanate of the preceding sign and two decanates of the next sign).
